Looking for quiet beach options

Hi group,

Next January, our cruise ship will stop in Mazatlan for a day.

We will be four adults searching for nice beaches. We generally prefer sandy beaches to rocky reefs. What could you recommend? And for each of them, should we get there by foot, by taxi or by renting a car?

Thank you for your help,
Max

Thanks Alastair,

So I would bet that on the following map, Cerritos would be at the top left (where we can read Playa Cerritos, duh!). ;) Should we be able to get free lounge chairs if we buy a beer or a meal, in Cerritos?

On another topic, how safe is it in Mazatlan? I doubt people are as aggressive as in Jamaica, but are there places to avoid?

hola max

-my wife and I have traveled thru out mx. resort city's and we have found mazatlan one of the safest. To my knowledge there has been only one incident of violent crime in the last 5yrs. most of the petty crime (pickpocketing etc.) happens in the golden zone where most the touristas shop and play. I can only speak for my self but I find maz one the safest resort cities in mx. My wife and I live in centro and have never felt threatened when walking around at night. Common sense always prevails when traveling in mexico. there are some colonias to avoid but for the most part they are off the beaten path.
- Cerritos Most of the resorts have palapas on the beach but generaly they are reserved for guests, most of the resorts do allow visitors to enjoy their rest. and bars, for decent food and cervesas at a reasonable prices try the brujas at the playa of the same name. You will find the prices in centro far cheaper than in the golden zone.

enjoy the pearl of the pacific

I need your advice, guys.

I posted a similar question on Usenet, but regarding all ports of call I will visit on this cruise, namely Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.

The two answers I got suggested that the Mexican Riviera is NOT a good place for beaches and that I would be better off with shore excursions and sightseeing. Is that accurate?

Thank you,
Max

hey Max

that all depends upon how long your port of call is? as far as beaches are concerned the maz has some great beaches. if you decide to go for a tour, pulmonias (open air cabs)are great for whipping around the city sights, but do negotiate or they will take you for a ride!

Hello Max
My name is Erika.I am From Mazatlan, but now I live in Canada, to get to the best beach in Mazatlan you have to take a Bus called “Cerritos Juares” or just "Cerritos" Go until the route finish, It is call “Cerritos Beach” and it is at the end of the road straight up.. .. But you don’t want to go to the “Cerritos Beach” you want to go to the quiet one with is on your left hand. And it is a Sea food Restaurant Right there too(I don’t remember the name) but “It is Phenomenal”.. The food is the best, they have live band on Saturdays and Sundays .. And happy hours starting at 5 pm .. They used to have all you can eat on lobster for $15 US but I’m not sure about that anymore.. Plus they have the best waiter in Mexico “George” ..
Please see the attachment it is worth it..
When are you going to Mazatlan, I will be there on Jan 19… I hope you can Open the picture, If you can't send me an Email at burbuja1891@hotmail.com ..
