I am moving to Mazatlan May 20th 2008. I wanted to know a few things about the area. I have only been to Ixtapa 3 times prior. Is there good health care in Mazatlan? I am also in need on a shoe lift since my right leg is shorter from a car crash, is there a place where i can get a rocker bottom? And finally i would be interested in someone showing me around for maybe a week or so, if you might be interested let me know and we can work out some payment plan.

Dear Scott,

There is excellent health care here in Mazatlan. Sharp Hospital is very good, with the best doctors and the best equipment. I don't know about the shoe lift, but I do know there are many leather shops here, which could custom make (or copy) pretty much anything you could provide them with. As for someone showing you around for a week or so, the guy who works for me should have some time available then, as we will be back in Reno for the summer. His name is Santiago Gonzalez (Sandy) and he speaks very good English, as well as knows his way around the area very well. Hola Scott !! Health care in Mazatlan is superb, better service than Canada. Henry is right of course, and across the road from Sharp virtually, is a private health care facility with a team of specialists, next to ResoMaz.
The physiotherapist will help you get a shoe lift.
Many of the taxi drivers speak English and they will show you around, drop you at an interesting place then you phone for a pickup. So, the first thing is to go to "Telcel" next to Sharp Hospital and get a cell phone.
Working here without a proper FM3 endorsement is illegal and could get you thrown out of Mexico. or worse.
Wages for an English speaker start around $5, per hour. (I pay my maid $5/hr)
