Hi Shawn,

No this will be our second trip to Mazatlan nothing like love at first sight. My sister, brother-in-law and friends have been there many times. It is amazing how many Canadian are living there either fulltime or just snowbirds. Amazingly, I have not heard of too many negative comments, most people just love it there.

We just finished purchasing furniture for our condo through a very help fellow working for a furniture company down there. He is American and the girls who works with him is Canadian.

I will let you know how it is when we return on April 19 and if he has done a good job I will refer him to you for future inquiry.

Talk to you later.

Yes we have travelled through Fernie many times on our trips through B.C. There seems to be alot of Canadians in Mazatlan. We met quite a few while we were there in January. We are very excited. Have you managed to spend quite a bit of time in Mazatlan. I'd love to hear about your "furnishing" experiences. We will have to do that Aug/09.........

Hi Gillian,

I feel your pain...we have 5 feet of snow (don't ski much anymore) and -28c thank goodness not much wind tonight.
My gargage door was frozen to the ground this morning so couldn't open and had to use my hubby's truck that sat outside all night! We use to love living in the Rocky Mountains close to a ski resort but now just dream about Mazatlan...we also hate the cold.

The Aura condos are brownish in color and situated behind Tenerife right next to the security gate leading into the EL Cid residential area. I have posted a picture taken from one of the units.

Thanks for being so helpful...Dennise must have taken over for Chris as the customer service person.

Hi Debbie,
At Sams club they have ALL the major appliance brands like Panasonic, Oster, LG.....just the same as what you can buy here. You can get all the varieties from low end to high end.
Our weather is TERRIBLE. I've been trapped in the house for 2 days because I can't back my car out of the garage. It's 36- and with the wind chill it's about -46.
We both hate the cold.
I'm looking for Christophers email so you can hook up with him to help you with your furnishings when you get there. It's a lot easier when you're with somebody who knows the salespeople. Chris used to be the customer service guy at Tenerife....that's how we know him. As soon as I dig up his email I'll give it to you.
Where exactly is the Aura complex? Is it a greyish coloured building about 6 floors high?

Hi Gillian,

Thanks for this...it is difficult to arrange all this from a far. We are back on April 5 for 2 weeks to fianlize all of this. We can't wait as we have 4 feet of snow and -24c.

Great to see Canadians investing in Mazatlan...we have quite a few new made friends living in the Aura condo complex across the street, so we will definitely have to have a block party !!

Keep in touch and perhaps we will meet up when our vacations cross.

Debbie.

Hi Debbie y Darrell,
( It looks like Tenerife is being taken over by Canadians )
The best place to buy bedroom furniture in my opinion is Fabrica de Francia. They sell very good mattresses like Simmons etc. We bought the penthouse fully furnished because it was the show suite but I'll tell you exactly how we furnished the 2 bedroom right below it.
We took a mexican friend ( Chris ) with us and we all made a trip to Fabrica de Francia downtown and Chris was able to communicate with the salespeople very well and we got exactly what we wanted ordered and paid for in about an hour and a half. We bought 2 king size bedroom suites, both very high quality, 2 king size top of the line Simmons mattresses, a 3 piece ultra suede contemporary sofa set and about 7 throw cushions to brighten up the sofa. We also bought a GORGEOUS loveseat that was half price ( we added that to the penthouse )
Fabrica gave us this fantastic deal. They give you 10% off your first purchase and then apply the 10% to your second purchase and then 10% of THAT to your third purchase and on and on until our last purchase was a free crystal ashtray ( we don't even smoke )
The salesman Jesus was fantastic. He fiddled with the numbers and the order of the purchases until we got the best deal possible. We also got 2 free 32 inch TV's for spending a certain amount.
Then we went to a little furniture shop downtown called MALI furniture. We bought a beautiful marble topped coffee table and 2 matching end tables and a lovely dining room suite with six upholstered chairs and gorgeous carved wood. The glass top on that table is about an inch thick.
We bought little items like vases etc. from a place called Michaels ( also downtown ) We had to take the Michaels stuff home in a pulmonia but Fabrica and Mali both delivered right to Tenerife.
We also got a local artist to copy the artwork in the penthouse and she painted one huge 6 foot one and 10 smaller ones for approx $2000 Canadian. Our total cost for the 2 bedroom was about $20,000 Canadian. I honestly can't remember how long delivery took because we went there in August to do all the shopping and then I went again in October and everything had been set up for us.
I forgot....we also bought a patio set at Sams Club and kitchen small appliances like a coffee pot, blender, toaster, DVD player, and Lamps at Home Depot. All of that stuff AND the art is included in the $20,000.
If you need anymore help just give me a shout and I can line you up with Alexis ( the artist ) if you're interested.
We are going down on February 11 for 2 weeks and then I'll be going down again in April or May.
